What makes the Forsaken immortal? Lordling Send a noteboard - 07/01/2010 06:08:50 PM
I'm not sure if this has been discussed before, hopefully not too often, at least.

What do you think is the direct mechanism the DO uses to make a person immortal?
Is this something that can only be done to channelers?

Channelers are already long-lived, it seems to me that the DO is somehow able to use that, and make them live way longer.
I think you need to be a channeler to be made immortal because OP already lengthens life and also because the weird mind trapping the DO did to Moggy requires the victim to be a channeler. I think those two processes are relatively similar.

Two mini-theories:

a) The DO has some sort of super weave that makes you live forever. Probably requires the TP.

b) the DO somehow ties a knot to the person's string in the Pattern, making them immortal. This would be rather more surreal and metaphysical. Somehow similar to what was done to Moghedien, trapping her soul into an inanimate object. The DO gets your DNA, snatches of your soul and puts it into a box. It wouldn't surprise me if the mindtrapping and the immortal-making processes are similar and equally painful. I would suggest that the DO actually yanks the participant's "lifeline" away from the Pattern entirely and puts it into his mentalist treasure chest for safekeeping, but that would make them like Trollocs, unable to Travel.

The Darkfriends would be disappointed to hear that only a channeler can be made immortal, I'm sure :D

Ye have a better idea?

I think the Dark One "plucks" their threads from the Pattern and holds them apart from it. - 07/01/2010 06:32:55 PM 633 Views
