"When he found out the real answer, he wasn’t shocked. His reaction was more 'Oh, those guys were right'. He said that the clues are there, but he never would have figured it out himself."

Slayer hates AS, and therefore likes to kill them most.

This is really thin, Asmodean would be a much bigger thing than a couple of weak AS!

This argument is often stated. IMO, though, it's a rather ridiculous "Role playing game"-argument, that Slayer would prefer to kill a more powerful Forsaken. The reason why Slayer likes to kill AS so much is obviously not because they are channelers and therefore quite powerful (besides that there are also weak AS anyway). We see that Slayer also isn't that overwhelmed in WH that he is just attempting to kill the most powerful channeler on the world, the Dragon Reborn. Slayer's special hate of AS can be logically explained: Isam hates AS, because they betrayed Malkier (many Malkieri despise the WT for this reason). And Luc hates AS, because they manipulated him & his family in the past. There is no reason for Slayer to hate a Forsaken that much. He might have even regretted to kill a potential patron, whom he knew.

Slayer certainly learned from his patron that Asmo stayed with Rand. He probably spied on Asmo for a time (it's mentioned in the books that Slayer spies in TAR as well), till he finally got a good opportunity to kill Asmo, namely when he saw him strolling alone through the - at this time pretty deserted - Caemlyn Palace (a place Luc knows very well, of course).

Yet Slayer killed 2 people in Far Madding without realizing they weren't his target... seems like his spying abilities there aren't all that great IMO.

I would bet Rand surviving this assassination attempt is rather a plot device, than RJ wanting to show that Slayer is a lousy spy..

RJ told us that all Forsaken know Slayer and Slayer knows all Forsaken. This is supported by Slayer's PoV in WH and only logical, considering that Slayer is one of the Shadow's foremost assassins (and even mentioned in the Dark Prophecies). While Asmo was at first surprised, when Slayer appeared out of thin air, he figured out what this means a moment later, but then Slayer's bolt already took him.

Fair enough, but that still doesn't match the reaction. Asmo had about 2 heartbeats to do that mental math ... IMO he'd be more likely to simply say "What do you want?" to one such as Slayer... just like Mesaana did with Shaidar Haran.

Slayer suddenly appears out of thin air with a weapon in his hand. That could stop Asmo for a second, before he realizes that Slayer is there to kill him, and not to save him.

I think a character called "Slayer", who is obviously - among other things - a traitor hunting assassin/bounty hunter of the Shadow and equipped with special powers by the DO seems like an obvious choice, especially since Slayer also killed or tried to kill other people in the books before, e.g. traitors of the Shadow.

Maybe, but Slayer wasn't really introduced all that much until later. Yes we knew he was out there, but IIRC we didn't really know his function until much later.

I think a careful reader should definitely be able to figure out before LoC that Slayer is a special assassin or bounty hunter for the Shadow. After all his profession is already mentioned in the Dark Prophecies in TGH and we see him hunting Fain in TSR, for example.
