Re: Moridin has an unfair advantage over all channelers Datakim Send a noteboard - 20/12/2009 11:32:00 PM
The True Power cannot be sensed by other channelers in the first place. Another channeler would only be able to counter his weavings after they started feeling the effects (unless they have defensive wardings up). Cadsuane doesn't have any special disadvantages.

I disagree.

You are correct in that TP and the inability to sense it does give Moridin a large advantage. So yes, any channeler facing Moridin would be at a disadvantage due to the nature of the TP.

However my argument was that Cadsuane specifically would essentially have an even bigger problem due to her ter'angreal. She might well be twice as disadvantaged as the average AS.

One of the things she is most famed for is capturing more male channelers than any other sister, more even than any Red. I think we can say with certainty that her fame is somewhat undeserved in that most of those battles were probably not all that dangerous to her due to her uber!ter'angreal. We saw during the cleansing that even Lanfear/Cyndane was unable to fully defeat Alivia despite having a huge advantage in skill.

Now my suggestion here was that because of her ornaments, it is very likely that Cadsuane has had to do very little to defend herself against attacks in a LONG time. I doubt any self-trained male channeler would have the time to realise that only indirect attacks would work on her. It took the AS ages with Mat and
before they figured they could throw rocks at him for instance.

I am sure you agree that it is necessary to regularly practise things to maintain a steady level of skill. Cadsuane has probably not had to practise using the OP itself to defend herself in centuries. Why should she when her ter'angreal did the job for her so effectively. I bet her skills in that area have atrophied due to disuse to the point that she is very inept at it. Infact she is probably worse in actively countering incoming attacks than most AS, despite her reputation.

I figure that if you were to take her ter'angreal away, or neutralise them somehow, we would suddenly discover that Cadsuane was not all that hot when it comes to channeling and fighting. It would be natural for the ornaments to have become a crutch for her that hides her lack of true battle ability.

Well those ornaments would be utterly ineffective against Moridin. So even IF Cadsuane knows that Moridin is deadly and is prepared for the fight, I think she would still lose far faster than anyone else simply because without her ter'angreal to help her, she would simply be inept in blocking incoming weaves.

I am trying to say that against Moridin, Cadsuane would be far more vulnerable than even channelers weaker than her. It would also be ironic in a way that at the end, her super-duper-ter'angreal don't just not help, but actually hurt her.
