Why would Ishamael think he could convert LTT after 10 years. Surely he had tried before and failed. I believe Lanfear had also tried and failed. Ishamael's hand would have been a lot stronger just before the strike as the Shadow was winning and the Light faced certain defeat.
He could have gotten a message to LTT then along the lines that if LTT turned he would guarantee LTT's family safety. LTT must have known that if he lost he had a lot of enemies among the forsaken. Lanfear probably wanted to kill his wife and Semirhage would probably have loved some time with his family.
One other thing to remember is that Ishamael was not alone. The other 12 forsaken were sealed away but the forces of the shadow still had a lot of other forsaken of various ranks. I believe RJ said that the current 13 were akin to the general staff among the Shadow but other forsaken had been just as high ranking and been replaced so there were a lot of others who could have replaced them.
