I think the Chronology just strikes us as being super-handy because we're all so chronologically inept (myself included, of course). I find the Encyclopaedia useful because it has certain things collected in one place that I would have to go several places to find (like lists of all the prophecies, character profiles, etc.) I could find all that stuff without it, even though it would be a PITA. But the chronology? I'd be screwed on that without Steven Cooper.
