Balefire doesn't work that way... Fanatic-Templar Send a noteboard - 06/12/2009 08:06:38 AM
She puts Ramshalan in a locked room before she Compels him. In order to Compel him, she goes to the room and orders the jailer to unlock the room for her. She then enters the room and Compels Ramshalan. She immediately flees the palace.

Then, when Rand balefires the palace, the jailer dies. His actions are erased and therefore he was never able to open the door for Graendal, and thus she was never able to Compel Ramshalan. The Compulsion therefore vanishes, making Rand think she's dead.

But for the fun of annoying ourselves over temporal paradoxes, let's suppose it did. Because the jailer never opened the door of the room in which Ramshalan was locked in, Ramshalan never exited the palace and never went back to Rand, so not only could they not see Graendal's Compulsion disappear, but Ramshalan would not confirm Graendal's presence so Rand would not balefire the palace. Paradox!

Alternatively, Garendal, when her jailer fails in bringing her Ramshalan, finds another way to go Compel him, or else falls to the floor and suicides because she was defeated in her designs to Compel some random Third Age noble by a plain, inanimate door.

I hate balefire in all it's forms .
