Re: Traveling can be a huge advantage for the Seanchan Knightscape Send a noteboard - 05/12/2009 09:27:23 PM

I don't think you realize how big these animals are! The smaller raken are large enough to carry two women in flight, wing span alone would probably make them too large to even fit through the largest Gateways any one individual could make!

With a full wing span obviously not, but with retracted wings...
Without knowing the specifics of raken size or how large a strong damane could make a gateway, this advantage can not totally be ruled out.

Yes they can move troops quickly, troops without equipment or food beyond what they can carry on their own. No wagons, no siege engines etc and some the exotics may not be able to fit through a Gateway ... S'redit seem doubtful ... this limits what they can use Traveling to accomplish.

Horse and wagons can go through with moderately strong damane. Stronger damane should be able to make gateways large enough for wagons. The Seanchan just got incredibly mobile.

IMO a force like Mats that can Travel is what they'll be able to field ... a few thousand men and horses who are more suited to raids and can live off the land... nothing wrong with it, but it's not like the entire Seanchan army is going to be able to appear in Sheinar tomorrow.

The Seanchan can now move whole armies quickly. Considering their organization skills the Aiel are probably the only army that could move more quickly through a gateway.

After months they still didn't really believe the Oaths are binding, the collar only gives the wearer a sense of the damanes emotions, no way to be 100% she isn't holding out.

They will doubt because even if they the individuals they have captured are believed, it's possible the just didn't know the weave(s).

The Seanchan now have the former leader of the white tower. All her knowledge of the white tower is now their's. If she doesn't know anything about a super weapon, they will start to consider other possibilities. Information gathering and adaption are real strong points among the Seanchan. With all the new weaves they aquired in their successful raid their ability for both has increased.

They had the standard AS Healing from their other captive but new weaves are not going to make the Seanchan people any more likely to accept it from a damane, it's been made very clear that these people would rather be bandaged up than be touched by the power. Better weaves that no one wants are basically useless.

The Seanchan army will do what it is told. They will follow orders. A dying man will not object to strenuously when a damane heals him. Eventually they will get used to the idea as and it will filter down to the common people.

I'm sure there are plenty of advantages to many weaves they will have gotten, but you are assuming they didn't already have something comparable. In any case, I think they will see that they had a minor victory. But ultimately they didn't really get the number one thing they came for (and never will), they didn't really gain all that many damane in the process and they lost some valuable assets to achieve what was NOT a decisive victory.

How could the raid have been more successful? The raid was primarily for information gathering. Information they now have in abundance. Anything Elaida knew, they now know. Anything information that any of the captured individuals had now resides with the Seanchan. Even if they had obtained no new weaves the raid still would have been useful in all of the information they now have. Imagine all the propaganda they can achieve with releasing information about the 13th depository.

General Yulan will be praised for the attack, but it's not the kind of thing that will go down in History as a great battle the Seanchan won!

About the only way the raid could have been more successful is if they had been able to obtain angreal sa'angreal. With all the weaves they obtained, especially but not limited to gateways, this is about as successful a raid as they could have imagined. Other than holding off a small raiding party, this was a total disaster for the white tower and all the west lands.

The Seanchan can now have an army anywhere they want within days, if not hours.
All good things come to those who wait.
