I doubt Logain's role is to be the DR redhand Send a noteboard - 02/12/2009 09:53:49 PM
I like the general flow of the idea, but I can not agree on Logain becomeing the DR.

Logain may becomes a post-DR leader, an important world leader, but not DR. A new "Dragon Reborn" like title may be bestowed upon Logain, but not "Dragon Reborn" itself.

When Rand proclaimed himself, the Pattern has declared that there would be no more False Dragons. And False Dragons were removed by accidents on the battle field immediately. Logain just can not claim the exact title of "Dragon Reborn". He would die choking on him own vomit if he did so. Also, the Aiels would immediately think they are duped. They followed a false Car'a'carn. It is like Obama comes out saying he was actually born in Japan. Dragon Reborn would lose all legitimacy.

There would still be problems if Logain just take over from Rand without the title of Dragon Reborn. One of the themes in tGS is the corruption of power, and too much power is not good for anyone. Thus the CK must be destroyed. Giving all Rand's power to Logain would give Logain too much power.

In a sense, Rand is given the executive power of the whole world as an emergency measure, and it is not supposed to last past TG. If the emergency measure turns into everyday business, that is bad for the Pattern.

There is also the problem of how much power is Rand's to give. There are many people who follow Rand out of their own free will, and can leave Rand out of their free will. Their loyality is not for Rand to pass around.

For example, let us see the Aiel, Sea Folks and all those who AS who are sworn to DR. If they believe that Rand had just died, what would happen to their morale? Would they even follow Logain?

To the Aiel, the Car'a'carn is not a wetlander king. Rand can not pass on his authority to Logain in his will. Rand is believed by Maidens to be of Aiel blood, and still many Aiels think of him as a wetlander. No way will any Aiel follow a true wetlander like Logain. The WOs have attached Aviendha to Rand, and that acts like a political marriage to earn the trust of Aiel. The WOs will not support Logain the same way.

And may I ask why would Elayne submit herself to the power of Logain, as she think she has not submitted to Rand.

Given how much Rand can give to Logain without too much trouble, I doubt Logain as the role of heir.

There is also the problem of motive. To deceive the Shadow? I mean, the DO is the Lord of the Grave! If Rand died, the DO would know for sure. Rand knows the DO can transmigrate the dead, and deal with the soul. It is hard to imagine fooling the DO by faking death.

After the TG, Logain may be an important leader, but I just can't see him leading Andor, the Sea Folks, or the Aiel after the TG. Other lands, maybe, but definitely not those.

I like the theory very much but can't see Rand killing Moridin before TG. *NM* - 02/12/2009 08:21:25 PM 314 Views
