It matters, because the two are different, and we have no proof that being Burned Out can be Healed. Also, I don't see how stilling is an option here, unless Lanfear stilled Lanfear.
I understand the difference - I'm actually one of those people who thinks that burning out can't be healed, but I'm willing to concede that it just may be very difficult.
I said it doesn't really matter since I simply think their ability to channel ended in finnland through either burning our or severing. Personally, I hope that Moiraine is burned out and cannot be healed.
If Lanfear were burned out rather than severed, it does add some complications. I suppose the it is possible that the TP can be used to heal as well (afterall, it can heal things that the OP cannot - such as madness). That would be an interesting complication.
I suppose it's also possible that Lanfear was stilled as part of her 'sentencing' by the Finn if such an even occurred. But, it's unclear if the Finns could do this - they may need a special ter'angreal to do so and I'm not sure why one would exist.
If she was burned out, Flin may well be unable to Heal her. Also, I think the burning of the gateway is just as good an explanation for the snapping of the bond as being burned out.
I agree with the first part, but I disagree with the destruction of the doorway being a simpler explanation - I've gone into it elsewhere above, so I won't repeat it here.
This is the part I have the most trouble with.
1)I know BS said a burned out channeler remains so when transmigrated, but this doesn't make much sense to me. When a soul is Reborn, the damage done to its channeling ability in a previous life is erased. This implies that as soon as the soul is free of the body, its channeling ability is restored.
I fail to see why the same won't be the case with transmigration. And the fact that Brandon isn't somewhat sure of this points to it not being significant in the whole Lanfear mystery.
2)Unless Moiraine somehow stilled Lanfear (or maybe the Finn did, though I don't see this being possible), Lanfear must have gotten burned out, by your theory. But we have no idea if burning out can be Healed. That is a pretty major assumption.
3)Even if Lanfear was indeed Healed, her current strength makes no sense at all. Siuan says she has barely a lick of her former power. The same is definitely not true of Lanfear. Cyndane is weaker, but still astonishingly strong.
4)It is unlikely that any of the Forsaken women Healed her. Mesaana tells Demandred she is weaker. If she was the one who Healed her, this would hardly be a surprise. Plus, she cannot Heal. Semirhage likely doesn't know the weave, and almost certainly wouldn't Heal her old enemy. Graendal is ruled out. Moggy is too, both because she cannot Heal and also because she saw Cyndane's cour-sourva on Moridin when she was taken by Shaidar Haran.
A Yellow from the Rebel camp is possible, but that still leaves us with Cyndane's strength as an issue.

I think these are all reasonable comments and I have addressed them in part in other posts above. I do agree that Brandon's answer that severing/burning out carries over with transmigration doesn't make a whole lot of sense, but it's what we have to work with right now. I think he answered it because we've forced him to look more into the Cyndane situation lately (I think he would have as starts to write about it, but just hadn't gotten there yet). Do to this, he's more familiar with it right now and felt confident giving that answer. The only reason I can see why he'd have that info on hand is if the situation has or will occur in the books - this points directly toward Cyndane.
This is the most simple and reasonable explanation for things as we know them now. IMO, other theories are unecessarily complicated, and therefore not very likely.
This explanation is neither simple not reasonable. Questions abound, from whether Lanfear would be burned out when transmigrated, to how she can still be so strong.
Well, I obviously disagree - I stand by it being the most</> simple explanation because I fell the others are more complicated. Partially as a result of it being the most simple explanation, I also find it the most reasonable explanation. Clearly, a lot people don't feel as I do on this - which is fine. We'll all find out what happened in ToM.

I think that since Moiraine was in another dimension, the Bond passed to the closest holder.
