If Graendal is dead, then her aquisition of the ring angreal has served no puspose in terms of the plot. She hasn't killed one enemy who 'thought they knew her strength', before being unpleasantly surprised.
The scuffle with Cyndane and Moghedien was meaningless from a plot perspective since they never intended to kill her in any case.
Come to think of it, could the unfillfilled use of her angreal be a sign that she is actually still alive? Was her thought about surprising someone with it foreshadowing by RJ, or just a meaningless soundbyte?

To make everything more realistic, but in the end it didn't have a real plot purpose (though there might be subtle things like Graendal acting a bit more confident because of the angreal, etc.).
I think RJ has actually included some such possible important, but in the end rather unimportant details, like also e.g. Masema'a carte blanche from Suroth, or those of BA in Liandrin's group, who Moghedien sent on some unknown mission, and were never mentioned again.

Seems improbable that she would have had it for 50 years if it belongs to the White Tower
