And by Ishamael to a degree.
I don't think any of the prophecies can be trusted completely, except in a broad scope. The Breaking of the World, the loss of records, etc...was prime opportunity for Ishamael to tamper. The Trolloc Wars as well, when people couldn't even remember what year it was, another good time to slip misinformation in. The Seanchan aversion to anything that might reflect negatively on the Empress. I think short of an original copy, all we have are translations. Translations are easily changed, corrupted. And the Old Tongue is a language were a word has multiple meanings.
Given the general feeling regarding male channelers and what Lews Therin Telamon did, it is highly likely people with the best intent put the most negative spin on things, because it suited, more then it was literally correct.
a thought experiment if you will: he will bind the people to him.
Bind has many meanings. It could be simply they're tied to him. They're in the same sinking boat. They're actually bound like a warder. Or it could mean enslave. Given the way people react it is not unfeasible for the later to be chosen.
Just my thought on the matter. I for one think we need to take the prophecies, all of them, with a grain of salt, and be slightly skeptical when it comes to details, unless they come from a first hand source like Elaida's Foretellings.

The past is just that, the past. You can only truly live by looking to the future!

They would have been corrupted by misinterpretation of the language when they were translated too *NM*
