The Dark One's ultimate intention was to capture Rand and to break him down at his leisure while a captive of the Domination Band and Semirhage at Shayol Ghul.

The Dark One (via Shaidar Haran) told Semirhage that, but since when do we trust the Father of Lies? About anything. Semirhage was a useful tool that was expended for a greater purpose: turning Rand to the Shadow.

Even if that wasn't the Dark One's plan, I don't think he'd mind. Chaos is chaos, and Rand just separated his allies more than the Forsaken ever managed.
