That's absolutely not the case in the Wheel of Time series. The prophecies mention the Eye of the World, they mention Shaidar Haran, they mention the Seals, they mention the Crown of Swords. It's very often that the Karaethon Cycle refers to literal objects. It also refers to events metaphorically as well. People aren't "picking and choosing" which they prefer--they're attempting to decipher to what exactly the Prophecies refer.

Given that Rand has somehow acquired a sword that's familiar to him, but not in this life, and that the prophecies mention the sword of justice, and that Paendrag's sword was called Justice, I think this interpretation fits rather nicely.

How would he know it? Hawkwing came after Lews Therin and before Rand al'Thor. It is a stretch I think. I think it is Lews Therin's sword. They said it mentions it having a feel of being very "old" yet they have TONS of items from around the breaking that aren't given that sentiment. Like Tam's sword. Power wrought yet has herons marked on the blade. Had to be made before the formation of the tower.

Also, I was being somewhat faceious in my original post. Obviously, the prophecies can't be taken completely literally or metaphorically. I, however, believe people can't read into EVERYTHING. I read a post on Wotmania where people proposed that the AesSedai had time travelled because RJ decided to step back in the story and start the new book back after the rebels had travelled.
