Seems to me destroying the DO with balefire would take a force equal to his. The Name With No Man Send a noteboard - 06/11/2009 09:57:47 AM

When Lews Therin said that something had to be used to touch the Dark One, I immediately thought of the True Power. What Rand could possibly do is touch the Dark One with the True Power and seal him away with saidin/saidar. That way, if the Dark One strikes back again, he'll strike the True Power and not the One Power.

I'm not sure what the significance is of Rand's statement that he's going to slay the Dark One. RJ said he could destroy the DO with balefire but it would also destroy the world. Of course, if Rand uses the True Power then maybe his counterstroke will injure himself. Who knows?

If it were done with the One Power, it would take all of it, effectively destroying the world. OTOH, I didn't think Rand could really cleanse saidin either, but he did.

It also might be that Rand used Moridin as a conduit, making the DO's permission irrelevant. - 30/10/2009 03:58:04 PM 891 Views
Indeed... Moridin is definitely worried about the connection - 30/10/2009 03:59:59 PM 992 Views
