I wonder if it theoretically would work to kill the DO with the Choedan Kal, or at least close the Bore with that Power.
Rand says at the end of TGS that he has enough Power to Unravel the Pattern, which probably means he is as powerful as the DO, if he would completely break free.
Also some AS in the AoL and Lanfear believed that at least both Choedan Kal together had enough Power to challenge the DO or the Creator.
RJ confirmed in a Q&A that one could theoretically kill the DO with balefire, but it would destroy the world.
Q: Why doesn't somebody just balefire the Dark One?
RJ: The quantity necessary would destroy the world.
So, do you think that it had been actually possible to kill the DO (or the Creator) with the Choedan Kal? And if that is the case, wouldn't it be also possible - as a minus - to close his prison with the Choedan Kal at least? Or would any of these actions automatically destroy Creation?

Nobody can kill the DO and preserve Pattern.
At the beginning, before time, has been Primal Entity. It divided itself into two parts: material Pattern and insubstantial DO. Two parts coexist like two faces of coin. Coin can be melted into shapeless lump of alloy (be changed back to the form of Primal Entity), but you can not melt only one side of a coin and preserve intact the other side.
Who answered to Rand in CAPITAL LETTERS after battle of Tarvin Gap? Who answered to Demandred in CAPITAL LETTERS after battle of DW? It was the same entity DO/Pattern existing as two beings. Do you understand this? I do not, as I do not understand Christian Trinity. I accept it.
Between Pattern and DO is a "wall". Mierin and Beidomon three thousand years ago drilled tiny bore through it. LTT clogged the bore but not permanently. By bore nothingness of DO leaks to the Pattern and loosens reality. Something should be done, but what?.
There is the only alternative:
- use balefire against DO/Pattern and unravel the matter (of course one can not balefire nothingness e.g. DO), or
- restore impervious "wall" between two parts of Dual Entity (Pattern and DO), by unraveling the web maintaining the bore.
DO and Pattern are in equilibrium. Duality can not do something to itself by itself, for example close the bore or harm itself . The choice: to maintain balanced Duality or to return to shapeless form of Primal Entity is given to two human representatives: Dragon and Moridin. They also are in equilibrium.
Moridin decided to brake time and reality. He wants to die and not be reincarnated in future. He does not want future to exist. Dragon undecided yet, but probably, after achieving full personality on the top of Dragonmount he does not want to use One Power against matter and time.
