It was more his chapters that were forced, not him.

Because his chapters weren't really necessary, it all seemed kind of like we were reading...well, a forced chapter. I think that everyone is a little afraid of what will happen if they don't put Mat in a book, though. They're probably afraid of all those rabid Mat fans out there. :D
