1. He didn't annoy me at all in tGS (except for about three paragraphs). He had a lot of regret, and he made some good decisions finally. I think I was so relieved by this that I couldn't be annoyed. I wasn't bothered by any of his chapters. The only time I was annoyed at all was his big rant on Rand, but he's been ranting about Rand for so long that I'm mostly numb to it.
2. We know from BS's blog that there'll be some Youngling stuff in ToM. My guess is that Gawyn will lead the Younglings again. I think Egwene will bond him, then he'll tell her that he needs to see Elayne, so he'll leave for Caemlyn (Younglings in tow). But he won't tell her that he's also hunting Rand.
The only other reason I can think for the Younglings to stay together and not just dissolve into the Tower Guard is as some sort of honor guard for Egwene.

That would be quite the turn of events, since they all fought for the Tower against Siuan, and then would be guarding a woman who is close friends with Siuan and was trained by her. It would be a nice redemption for them as a whole. I'm sure they're a good bunch of boys/men who did what they thought was right. They seem to be extremely loyal to the Aes Sedai. Their level of dedication would be handy for any young AS looking for a Warder. And that was their original purpose of being at the Tower in the first place.
And also, it was nice to see Gawyn making sense again. It would be nice if he could gain back a little of the humility that made him so endearing in the first few books, but he's a huge improvement over the recent completely irrational Gawyn.
I know Egwene is angry, but I'm surprised she would string him along like she is, especially since she knows he's important to her from her Dreams. Also, she's known that she wanted to bond him as her Warder for a long time. I think she'll get over it, she should remember her Dream, that if he didn't come for her in time she would die. When she was exhausted from the Seanchan battle, who knows who could have stumbled across her nearly passed out in the hall. There were plenty of Black Ajah roaming the Tower, not to mention possibly a Forsaken.
She needed Gawyn to come for her, perhaps the Tower sisters would not have been so compromising if they just raised her without having to approach her with the rebels poised to take over the White Tower. It might have made reconciliation with the rebels more difficult. It worked out the best it possibly could have. Egwene should get over her anger with Gawyn and Siuan quickly.

I agree, but I think he'll find out just in the nick of time or maybe even during a duel/ambush. *NM*

I liked Gawyn. He's finally something more than a waste of page space.

I'll be honest - I continue to think he is a moron. I'm glad Gareth Bryne called him out on it.

I always felt he was just the convenient love interest to Egwene.

Egwene liked him because he is easy to manipulate.
