The map is pre-TGS. We were all under the impression Darlin had been moved to Arad Doman or as good at.

Mat is misplaced (like almost everything on that map. the guy who did it botched the research massively) but not by that much.

I made a map of the area Mat was in in his final scene in KOD at the thirteenth depository (it also retraces all his travels in KOD with Tuon). Look by the maps label, it's the last one I published, IRRC. We left him many leagues south-west of Remen, just a few leagues away from the opening of the Malvide Narrows, on the Altaran side (so yes, he was very much to the north of Altara, even though when he left Luca, he did so deep into central Altara, over 300 miles from the mountains). In TGS, he went by the Narrows and through the Gap and instead of using the passes at the Manetherendrelle (beyond Remen), he turned north before Remen and found an went into the mountains to the west of Murandy using an old road, because the passes into Murandy proper were full of Seanchan.

It is likely one of the reason why Perrin and Galad (apparently, according to Cadsuane) had no choice but to go west after all.
