Her final thought on whether the Forsaken might still be in the tower suggests that whomever she is, she can't be Aes Sedai. They were all tested on the oath rod. This brings Laras to mind. She's always helping out the wondergirls - she offered to let Egwene escape which would have only served to extend the conflict. And I got some weird feeling about her when Eqwene was in the chimney cleaning, like she was a little too quiet...
So - who is Mesaana? One of the three AS mentioned by Egwene who we know little about? Laras? Someone else?
I now think it's Laras (although she is a pre existing character, which makes this hard to rationalize. I mean, she was a known commodity to all the Aes Sedai for years and years).
But - the fact that it is commented upon that she is a big fat woman who moves so silently and spritely makes me think of Lanfear when she pretended to be big fat Kielle Shiogi in the Waste - people often commented about how elegantly she moved for big and bulky a woman

none of the characters ever consider that a forsaken could be accepted, novice, or servant

Danelle is only a possibility if she tricked the oath rod, so she's unlikely

Which has very interesting implications

Forsaken are immortal, so their lifespan are not effected by Oath Rod.

It has to be someone we know at least sort of well by now. But I don't think Laras.
