Or, more literal.
First: he had his actual eyes closed for a while. He was sitting on the mountain, with his eyes closed (yet he could still see the brilliance of the access key). He was up there for a while, but finally opened his eyes.
Second: He'd been brooding for ages, at least, what, 4 books? Making himself harder and more emotionless. Now, he's suddenly all about love and second chances. Hence, "opening his eyes"
The whole "color changing eyes indicative of Lews Therin/Moridin's influence" isn't a bad idea, but I don't think it's really supported by the text. He just has those greyish eyes that can seemingly change color depending on his emotions/author's whim.
