Did Verin ever call him that before? I don't think she did. That bothered me a little in the book because I didn't recall her calling him anything but Mat. I looked up a few chapters in tGH, and in everything I've read so far she always calls him Mat.
I know this is a minor thing, but it took me out of the story and it would have been easy to look up how she speaks to him.
Edit: while I'm complaining about little things, some stuff about Thom bothered me too. BS's descriptions of things he did were about gleeman in general. Whereas RJ always made a point of writing that Thom was special.
One example was the spying. The way BS wrote it, people always tell all gleeman things and all Thom has to do is listen. Where before, Thom was good at it. Not just lazy and able to hear. It was his thing
Another example is when Joline shoots the fireball at them. Thom moved out of the way of it quickly because he had a gleeman's agility. If RJ had written it, Thom would have moved out of the way fast because he's freakin' Thom!

The thing about Thom, is see as well, an explanation. Thom IS or at least was for a time a Gleeman. So therefore the reasoning that his agility and his spying ability partly came from being a gleeman. Granted he was probably skilled before. The thing is, he had to be stealthy before, not wanting to draw attention. So he couldn't rely on the gleeman tendencies. In the village, he could.
My point is that being a gleeman is part of Thom. So therefore when BS is saying he has abilities because of being a gleeman, he is also saying he has it because he IS Thom.
Also, as a point. I understand we all would have preferred RJ himself to finish his series, however we cannot have that. We have Mr Sanderson doing it. And I don't like that people see this as free-reign to nick pick everything they do not like and blame it on Brandon. He's doing the best he can. And he said he is writing his way, not imitating, so there will be differences, word choice and such. He is not RJ and he never will be. It is unfair to BS to pick at every little thing he does differently.
