I think this theory has lost popularity recently, but I remember years back it being assumed he had been balefired because he was almost dead before he knew what hit him. However, the lack of a balefire blast vapourising the scenery behind him was taken to mean he wasn't balefired.
But would balefiring someone who had balefired someone else bring pack the other person who'd been balefired? I don't think so. I think they are dead and gone for good no matter what. The thread isn't there to be re-woven again.
If Asmodean wasn't balefired, then it doesn't matter

Human beings, who are almost unique in having the ability to learn from the experience of others, are also remarkable for their apparent disinclination to do so.

I'm in that same faction. I didn't really care when it happened, and I still don't. *NM*

I'm pretty sure Sanderson said he would reveal who killed Asmodean

Or maybe RJ just wanted to bring Kumira back, and the balefire will be far enough back for that. *NM*
