True-- but Fain still has a role left in this series at this point

It would be lame if Fain is suddenly knocked off Masema style when we haven't see Fain since WH. I am very curious to what his final role is. I don't believe it will be as prominent as being the fix to the Dark One's prison, but he must have at least some role in unintentionally helping Rand.
Because otherwise SL is gone.
However, RJ apparently "mentioned the fact that Fain is essentially his wild card, a character that is outside the structure of the work and can therefore act totally unpredictably."
That Fain is basically a wildcard outside the structure of the work speaks against the idea that he will play a central role in the climax of the story, i. e. in the last scene, which RJ already knew since he began to write the story.
Besides that, it would seem like a cheap LotR rip-off, if Fain is the one needed to defeat the DO in the end. It also would be contrary to the Prophecies in the books and the statements by RJ that only Rand can defeat the DO.

Unlikely. We've already seen that trick. It would make for bad storytelling. *NM*

I think it's more important to ask what the Shadar Logoth evil actually is.
