That people would fight fire with fire...embracing evil, not for the Dark One, but against it. It just happened that Mordeth and Aridhol concentrated that into one place during the Trolloc Wars, creating a place of evil, that wasn't of the Dark One's making. There were probably minute parts running about during the AoL, and it would have come to the attention of high ranking people like the Forsaken, in particular like Aginor who was a scientist.
The past is just that, the past. You can only truly live by looking to the future!
