First he has military life and leadership dropped on his lap at a young age. Secondly his ties to mercenaries. Further his many battles to quell the chaos between Tear and Illian. He also creates one of the first professional armies in Europe at that time, the "Black army of Hungry". He was known to walk among his people in disguise (mat did so in Seanchan held territory, albeit to escape...). His last name is latin for Raven. He was known for his wisdom, which parallels his lost eye and Odin.
