TDR (What is written in prophecy) - She set the patterns of the weaving, readied them, making the threads of Spirit much stronger, this time, thicker and heavier, a denser weave with a cutting edge like a knife."
Sounds like she's spending time reinforcing her weave, building it up.
Duh! I'm saying she took longer because she was doing this for the first time, with no idea that making a denser shield can still a channeler. It looks like she made a shield and then started passing more strength into it, making it denser, thinking that that would helo her shield a woman who already held the Power.
I doubt that at her strength, she had to, but she did, and since she began with a shield and ended with a stilling weave, she ended up taking longer.
She should be able to make it in a jiffy now, just like Nynaeve can, though Nynaeve's will be much stronger, of course (and probably coarser).
I responded to what you said quite clearly. I think that Egwene is taking longer to make that weave because it requires a great deal of saidar which she can't produce in an instant, and she needs to build it up. Nynaeve is stronger and has that saidar available immediately. Well that's how I see it anyway.

Nynaeve does. Egwene did it solo in tDR. Rand did 3 at once in LoC, but men don't seem to know how

I think Egwene took longer because it was the first time. *NM*
