I'll add a nod to Sanderson in addition to my other favorites Narg Send a noteboard - 01/12/2016 09:55:50 PM

Sanderson may have made a dog's dinner of the final 3 books, but he did a few things well. I thought Sanderson wrote Dark Rand very well in TGS after Rand finally snapped. In particular I really loved the following three dark rand moments: Dark Rand promising Cadsuane that if he ever saw her face again he would kill her, and Cadsuane knowing that somehow he could and would do it. I loved Dark Rand's meeting with Tuon. Most of all, I loved Dark Rand's attempt to kill Graendal. The plan was cold and brilliant and it was a travesty that Graendal wasn't killed. Dark Rand deserved that kill and Graendal's subsequent ridiculous plot with the white cloaks only made the books worse.

My final favorite BS WOT moment was Tam telling Cadsuane that she was just a bully, same as a strong man with a sword or something like that.

Some of my favorites from the series:

The moment Rand was shielded and stuffed in a chest in TLoC. It is one of the few moments in the books that I remember exactly my own physical circumstances when I read it. I was a college student sitting on the toilet in my apartment at 2am. I was so impacted by that moment that it felt like I had just learned that my own brother had been kidnapped. There was no possible way I could go to bed until I read the rest of the book in spite of having work early in the morning, followed by class.

I know you didn't want this, but the entirety of Dumai's Wells, from Rand/LTT stilling the sisters that were holding his shield while he was in the chest, to Taim's dreadful order of "Ashaman, kill!", to Rand making the Aes Sedai kneel before him. That was probably the climax of the series for me. Nearly everything after that was downhill.

I enjoyed those little moments where Rand seemed filled with hidden insight, such as when he was wandering through Rhuidean with Mat prior to entering the columns.

The scene in Verin's study at night with Egwene in TDR in which Verin provides the evidence related to the BA that had fled the tower. RJ wrote such a wonderful atmosphere for that scene. Mysterious objects, skulls, mysterious Verin, the presence of the owl, etc. A gem of a scene for me. The scene also ties in neatly to Verin's final scene in which she gives the list of BA sisters to Egwene.

Nynaeve healing Logain is another incredible moment for me. Logain is sitting there defeated and depressed while Nynaeve seemingly futilely probes the aftermath of his being gentled. Suddenly the world changes, especially for Logain.

I liked when Narg cleverly stayed in Tam's house knowing Rand would come back.

A little learning is a dangerous thing.
