"Tinkers?" Perrin exclaimed, "I've always wanted to see the Tinkers! They camp accross the river from Tarren Ferry sometimes, but they never come down into the Two Rivers. I don't know why not."
Egwene sniffed.
"Probably because the Tarren Ferry folk are as great thieves as the Tinkers. They'd no doubt end up stealing each other blind. Master Elyas, if there really are Tinkers close by, shouldn't we go on, we don't want Bela stolen, and... well we do not have much else, but everyone knows Tinkers will steal anything!"
Why does anyone like this racist bitch? Seriously, she's just the worst.
I can't understand it. She's down there with Sam Yeager from the World War series by Harry Turtledove in the "Is this really supposed to be a heroic protagonist?" category.
And will later give Rand crap because he reluctantly encountered other females, wanted as little to do with them as possible, did all he could to get away from them and did nothing to encourage their interest. And in her PoV, we will see that she wasn't just pushing out of guilt or for relationship advantages - she really IS mad at Rand for Elayne, Else & Min being attracted to him!
All by itself, her behavior with Aram was not at all wrong. She isn't engaged to Rand, she doesn't appear to get up to any illicit physical interaction with Aram, so that would be fine. It's that she is oblivious or indifferent to anything outside her whims and desires, that she goes along with Aram bailing on his grandparents (the polite way for a guest to behave in that situation is to tell Aram that she is just fine with Raen & Ila, and maybe she can eat with his parents another time), she takes his side and actively takes shots at Perrin, which have no basis in reality. Is there ANYone who deserves less than Perrin the snide comment about thinking his muscles can solve every problem? How many times does Egwene lash out inappropriately with the One Power, or seek to? Everybody gives Nynaeve crap about her temper, but when does she channel in an act of temper, despite initially needing to be angry to touch the Source?
