Heh, you realize you're also quoting Elayne? She was thinking exaxtly the same about the female Queen's guards - the ones with no previous training were learning to use a sword faster. RJ would of course have known that about the military.

The omniscient agent that starts all WoT prologues once described the Tar Valonese attitude towards the Tower. Something to be proud of but not too closely acquainted with, kind of (I think the metaphor was 'fireplace'. Might explain why girls may not be all that willing to be tested for novices.
