Homosexuality just seems totally unremarkable in the series. Pillow friends and such are taken as a simple matter of course as is lesbianism. Gay males are much more rare, but Algarin clearly inhererted and wasn't considered any less for being gay. Jordan has some peculiar ideas about how being gay works, but he clearly didn't make it any kind of social stigma

RJ enjoyed answering questions with later books. I'm pretty sure about this. He was hounded by questions of gateways and strength and suddenly a rather inappropriate quote by Logain pops up in KoD. It's so out of place it should be in a FAQ.

RJ was asked more than once why there are no gay characters. He said there were and explained pillow friends. After that he really accentuated the pillow friend stuff, like Meidani and Elaida and others. The Companion even carries on about Moiraine and Siuan and lesbians. Then suddenly in AMOL there are two gay males and multiple quotes by Pevara and Lan talking about it. RJ loves to cover his bases (Brandon whatever... I imagine RJ's wife telling him he needs to put this stuff in somewhere LOL).
