Very simply, she has always loved power, she finally got power, become obsessed with that power, terrified of losing it, and so does whatever is necessary to keep it. Its a pretty simple answer, the Dark Ones touch is negligable because everyone would be feeling it, Padan Fain might have influence but his power simply magnifies the distrust that is in each individual. I highly doubt RJ would just suddenly have a major character like that just go and join the dark side. So the closest one would be sitters response, she is just reacting to what she perceives as a major threat to her power.
