No, that was a late night spelling mistake - unorthodox is what I meant Larry Send a noteboard - 07/09/2013 08:42:12 AM

Which of course is where I admit a mistake, whereas you are claiming a division of sorts between groups spelling y'all in more than one way and I'm noting that it's as "proper" as spelling "practise" in the US. Of course, I'm just enough of a pedant to note that one of the major American dictionaries, the Merriam-Webster, lists "y'all" but not "ya'll."

The irony of all this is that my own family name is pretty much a misspelling (of three degrees over 9 centuries!) of an ancient Irish word. Anglicized, there are around a dozen variants, but only one is considered to be the widely-accepted spelling in English. Nevertheless, you can continue to use your variant spelling. Just accept that I'll continue to call you out for not using the most-common spelling of the contraction.

"Non-orthodox" is a somewhat unorthodox spelling as well; does that invalidate it? - 05/09/2013 11:05:57 PM 1528 Views
