Or Blood and Ashes, or Bloody Ashes....
Wasn't it just the worst thing to read all the time?
I almost skipped a full Mat PoV because of it until I saw Egwene's name...

"Tempest" was more irritating. Not sure why, RJ hammered us with the storm over and over (like 50 times in TPOD), but tempest he used very rarely and for some reason it stood out (RJ wasn't a big fan of English words borrowed from French and other foreign languages. Tempest is one. Many he didn't have a choice, but when he had he tended to avoid words like tempest).
Blood and Ashes I'm used to, though Brandon used it too often. Blood and Bloody Ashes was a more emphatic variant, used far more rarely.
The "Bloody Ashes" version was very annoying. It's meaningless. Brandon has this notion that all of a sudden the expression evolved and got shortened, but that sort of thing doesn't happen like that. Before a curse gets shortened like this, people would have to forget the meaning of the curse... like Brandon himself apparently did.
A lot of readers don't understand the reference, but the characters do know it means "the Light failed me" (the origin is given in EOTW through a verse of prophecy.... "The Moon turned to Blood and the Sun to Ashes", ie: the Sun and Moon have "died"/the Light is gone.
