I find it very hard to believe that Byrne, Galad or Tam would lose to the joke that called himself Turak. Also, I believe Lan himself has thought at one point that Rand would be better than him, and that he himself was only average (he knows there are people better than him)... winning 1 fight doesn't make you the best.

Except that Lan makes a habit of it. Also he said Demandred was better because Demandred was fresh while he had been fighting all day.
