Sanderson's writing chops are beyond atrocious Marshall Send a noteboard - 28/01/2013 07:42:42 PM
In my opinion, with respect to prose, Sanderson is one of the worst writers I've ever read. He's worse than James Patterson. His writing reads like Goosebumps, with zero subtlety, and betrays a pathetic grasp of nuance. This is my favorite quote:

Perrin growled. Slayer was too quick! Perrin was fast, too.

Sometimes I think Sanderon teaches a 3rd grade English course and, to save time, divvied up some of the scenes among his students. He then consolidated their work and passed the results to Harriet who, in the interest of just getting the damn thing done, did minimal editing of the most atrocious bits (most likely a fixing miscapitalization here and there, or removing the word "penis" here and there that was insidiously inserted by a conniving 3rd-grader) and sent it for publication.

In interviews he brushes this off as unimportant, and emphasizes the fact that it's the story that matters. Well, guess what Brandon: your English is just as important. You can write the most beautiful tune in the world, but if it's performed by a tone-deaf Parkinson's patient, it will come out sounding like crap.
