Jordan has always been one to imply off screen resolutions rather than explicitly depict them. I didn't get the impression that Rand was going to abandon everyone at the end. He had to sneak off from Shayol Gul so that the world would think he was gone. It would be dangerous for him and his family and friends to still be around. Celebrity times a billion.
There's no epilogue, really, or not enough of one, but there's nothing stopping Rand from contacting Tam, or Healing Aviendha with his thought powers, or any of that, but he needs to leave the world to its own devices both for his own good and the sake of the sovereignty of the existing/remaining leaders.
Rand saved the world. He did his part. To remain on-stage in the world at large would put him in the position of Hawkwing or even greater, and he knows that's not his place.
I think your interpretation is overly abrupt and angry.

That was my interpretation as well. I think it was an attempt at showing Rand's humility. *NM*

Even if she would just have been burned out there was no reason to think it permanent.

One point- the DO didn't break free, Rand dragged him out into the Pattern, specifically to kill him
