Illtempest, you do this all the time. You get tidbits, then make up ridiculous scenarios.
So let me put them to rest before this gets out of hand:
1) No, the first 37 chapters are not all Egwene. I wouldn't have to say this, but it seems you seriously believe this.
2) She is not the reason Rand figures out the mechanics of Sealing the Bore. But her death, and Rand's coming to terms that he cannot accept blame for her death and cheapen her sacrifice (and same for others, she just heads his list) is the catalyst for him to be able to completely push back against the Dark One and enter the Pattern again.
3) The Last Battle at Merrilor is chiefly won by: Mat's generalship against Demandred; Egwene's defeat of Taim and the entire Sharan contingent as well her patching up a new hole in the Pattern; Lan's heroic defeat of Demandred in single combat; Faile's decoy run that allows Olver to escape long enough to blow the Horn of Valere. Any one of these not happening would have doomed the fight, and that would have doomed Rand's fight at SG.
4) Nynaeve is not a non-entity. She revives Alanna enough for her to release Rand's bond at the right time. She and Moiraine are the ones who take control of Moridin when he uses Callandor, then link with Rand, thus giving him saidin, saidar and enough of the True Power to be able to sieze the Dark One. If that seems minor to you, then you might as well not bother reading the book.
5) Egwene doesn't ever say "I am the Amyrlin" to anyone. She does remind herself once, I think, to stop being a child and act like an Amyrlin. She does use "Amyrlin's anger" when she goes up against Taim, and I was the one who got irritated by it. It was bad enough against the Seanchan. Here, it was totally out of place, since what she was actually angry about was Demandred killing Gawyn. The whole Amyrlin's anger thing was totally out of place, and a tired use of a Brandonism I severely dislike.
6) Egwene never once thinks anyone is wrong, except during her discussion with Rand about the Seals. They have hot words then, only to be calmed by Moiraine. Nevertheless, barring that debate, the world would have ended. They both had pieces of the puzzle. They make up, and have a nice parting scene.
7) Logain is given responsibility for breaking the Seals at the right time. Egwene leaves instructions just before she dies. That he does so, despite the darkness that has been forced on him by the repeated attempts at Turning him is one of the reasons for his glory. If he hadn't done what he did, Rand would have failed.
You'll likely barf at Egwene's death. It is glorious and heroic and wonderful. Despite some kinks in the writing. Meanwhile, fans who're not rabid Egwene haters will agree that it enhanced the book, and appreciate the deep parallels between her death and Lews Therin's/Eldrene's.
