It was ridiculous enough two years ago to accelerate my departure from SF/F reviewing

I see the same people who were oh so eager to press me for information (not you; you were polite) when I said less about ToM than what Tor has been releasing for their "Memories" are now bitching about anything "spoiler" wise. Typical. Last round was nauseating enough that I swore off of ever agreeing to an "embargo" ever again (that and a few people being irritated about my veiled comments making sure I wouldn't receive a copy, as though I cared after the harassment). So I say go for it, post what you learn. Whenever I do get around to it, I plan on doing a thorough book dissection with no worries about the harpies this time
I understand Tor and the authors wanting to clamp down on spoilers. But posters getting into the fray is ridiculous. As you said, it seems to me that some people want spoilers when they don't have the book early. When they do get it early, they start acting out about keeping things quiet!
It's like there's something precious about having something before others. I'm sure I came across that way when I was teasing a bit for the past two releases, but that was good-natured and in line with my typical behavior Now that I rarely receive review copies from large SF/F publishers, can't say I miss it, as sometimes it's better to buy if I'm so inclined and not have even the remotest shadow of pressure on me.
In two weeks, those few posters will fade right back into the background, their opinions about books like this forgotten yet once again. Now if only people cared about my impressions of works that will be translated into English in the next 1-3 years!
But in regards to "spoilers": If plot revelations "ruin" a book for someone, then is that book truly worth reading? I would argue it isn't. As for AMoL, we'll see. At least the info seems more promising than what I expected, so perhaps I won't eviscerate too much
