I first picked up EotW in 1995, during undergrad. That summer, I read all the books that were out at the time, thru LoC. I was never so excited and immersed in a story/world like WoT. I got a ton of my friends hooked on WoT (most of who still curse me today!).
Then came CoS, pretty good, PoD, good, WH, meh with a great ending, and CoT, god awful. When CoT came out in 2002, I was done with grad/business school and working full-time. I remember being on a business trip in Jacksonville, FL, talking to one of my best buddies (and fellow geek) about how awful the book is and why/where did the series fall apart. To this day, I have never read KoD, but jumped into the first Sanderson book in 2009, since we finally saw the light at the end of the tunnel. The end may be coming soon! And I did really enjoyed GS and ToM.
And now, as aMoL approaches, I am excited and disappointed at the same time and for varying reasons - ranging from seeing what happens with the LB, to once again assessing the flaws in WoT, to reminiscing about days gone by and that summer where my life was WoT (and was in a position to have my life so solely focused on something devoid of the "real world" ).
I am now 37, married, part of the leadership team of my pharma company, and awaiting my first child. Times change! Life moves on. I have never been happier than I am today (even with Obama's reelection - ), but that doesn't mean I don't miss those simpler times.
So, I am excited to dive back into those simpler days once last time, but after a week or two (yes, I read slowly), all good things must come to an end.
