The difference cited by the Seanchan is that the wetlanders' prophecy does not mention Rand kneeling to the Crystal Throne, which theirs does.
More precisely, they've mentionned many differences but the character who mentionned this fact only pointed that specific example, it has to be fundamental in Seanchan, like one of the most important verse of the whole thing.
It can be as simple as the fact that neither version is comprehensive (and I have nothing to indicate they are, and much suggesting the opposite)
There is that in part, and it's not theory but fact. The KC was foretold from the late days of the WOS (yeah, before the Strike) to the early post-Breaking. Therefore, beyond a certain point during the Breaking, the two collections would have started to differ, as they had different contributors the other continent never heard about.
The Seanchan prophecies also include many Foretellings made by damane later. The KC there is part of a larger ensemble of Prophecies collected as the Essanik Cycle. It seemingly includes Prophecies of the Return and so on.
As for corruptions in the Seanchan KC, however, Brandon has already confirmed they exist. He's confirmed that "there has been tampering" with the KC.
, and no one on this side of the Ocean understood the significance of the Foretelling to include it.
Based on what RJ said of the KC, that doesn't make much sense. It's more likely to include many verses mistakingly thought to relate to the LB than that any foretelling would have been rejected, especially not one mentionning the Dragon Reborn. It could be, of course, that the verse is legit but has been foretold in Seanchan.
Or it could refer to the same event in different words.
Again, that would more likely in translations.. the Westlands has tons beside a version referred to as "the Old Tongue original". The WT as an institution would have made it fairly difficult to alter the original, mistakes of copists aside.
Seanchan has an "official version". We know the other versions, considered "corrupted" have been outlawed during the Consolidation. Most likely, Luthair imposed the Westlands' version he brought with him (and if Ishamael tampered with the Seanchan KC, it's probably the way it happened: by giving Luthair a copy with the corruptions), and scholars in his time or later colliged all the other local prophecies to form the Essanik Cycle.
As for the ridiculousness of Ishamael basing a strategy on minor alterations of a thousand-year-old prophecy, the less said the better.
Except of course Ishamael claims sending Hawkwing's heir oversea was part of a larger scheme (we know there have been prophecies of their return... despite the WT not acknowledging them as prophecies...), and while his word can't be trusted there remains the fact we know Ishamael was Hawking's advisors when those plans of conquest were made. There's too much there for this to be a complete red herring. There's some truth to plans of Ishamael for the Seanchan and tampering with prophecies.
And it's far from ridiculous... Ishamael could have done a lot of damage in the Westlands too if he had been able to introduce or alter some key verses of the KC.. the one proclaiming the Dragon true if he took Callandor, for instance.
