... of the many things I like to complain about regarding Egwene, the whole False Dragon/Red Ajah lie is probably one that irritates me the most, both as a development of her character and as part of the narrative.

It is difficult to accept Egwene's claims that Elaida is an Amyrlin that turns Ajah against Ajah when her entire rebellion is founded upon falsely calling the largest Ajah in the White Tower terrorist supporters. It is hard to consider her an adult when she can go through life dodging responsibility.

Of course it's also pretty terrible narratively because it's an issue that had so much buildup, was bound to be a source of irreconcilable hostility between Egwene and Elaida (whose opinion of the 'unbelievers' leaves it clear what her reaction would be) or even any other Red she encountered (Pevara flew into a rage at the discovery of someone working for the Salidar Aes Sedai, never mind the person benefitting from it all) and yet It is never brought up.

Really, I have to believe this is Sanderson's doing, I can't conceive that RJ would have allowed this to go entirely forgotten.

I don't look at the situation exactly the same way as you. Sure, Egwene allowed Siuan's lie to carry on, and that DID create strife between Ajahs. Egwene is culpable there. But the point Jordan was trying to make with Egwene in the Tower is that by being forced-demoted to Novice, and having to hold on to her title with none of the attendant benefits, Egwene was getting a new look at the idea of power and its implications. In tGS, we have a Siuan PoV that read somewhat like Jordan to me where she thinks about how she herself was not above blame, and that the cracks Elaida widened to fissures were there because of the way Siuan herself played politics as Amyrlin.

I was waiting for a similar reflection from Egwene. I was expecting that as she realized her true goal in the Tower couldn't be to widen the divisions Elaida created, she would also realize the failure on her part in the past. I was hoping we'd see her renounce on screen that kind of politicking. I mean, her later insistance that the Reds be saved is laudable, and at that point at least, I'd have expected her to think about the lie against the Reds. She wears red clothes to symbolize the need for unity, but doesn't think about how her own actions caused disunity? Not very Egwene-like. A definite failure on Sanderson's part.
