I am curious to what you thought of that book and if you think Sanderson's writing style has improved with time? I thought his character building of Kaladin was well done, and like how he is formatting his books (building a "main" character in each successive book).
Mostly out of lack of interest in starting yet another long series that will take many years before it's completed.
Maybe later.
I do find the books I read (Mistborn, Elantris) somewhat better than his WOT book. His style is more natural for his own stories, and he plays on his strengths and usually avoid his weaknesses. And for his own stories that he controls completely, he's avoided the kind of structural fiasco he trapped himself into with his WOT books.
I discussed Stormlight a bit with Sanderson after a signing, and the way he described the structure of the series to us sounded interesting.. the first volumes focussing on introducing different characters/storylines each, pretty much as apparent stand alones, and by the mid series it would start to come together and global storylines would start to emerge. At the time he was starting his rewrite of WoK, and he said he was giving a lot of thought to finding ways to avoid the problems of other long series (like WOT) where at some point it became problematic to advance several storylines in parralel and maintain pace. At the time his options were up in the air for the final volumes, he had not decided yet how he'd approach them, more chronologically à la WOT or devoting volumes to some storylines in turn (so, more in the vein of Erikcson).
If you have to call someone "my friend" three times in a couple of minutes, he isn't.

Sanderson's handling of character interractions is pathetic....

Now see, here I don't fully agree, or at least think it's a matter of taste.

I've long since accepted that Sanderson uses inaccurate terms like "powerful"

To be fair, the last Moghedian PoV by RJ might have changed her a bit.

Yes. The last time it happened to me it ended with the taxi driver fined by the NYPD.
