Re: I think Deepe's point was more that they didn't deserve the name Asha'man Sidious Send a noteboard - 02/10/2012 08:47:00 AM
2. The Ash'aman sensed these channelers in battle. They channel saidin.

I'm confused. What events are you referring to?

In the siege of Maradon the Asha'man named Deepe senses six male channelers who destroy the boundary wall. He senses large amounts of saidin in them and says they're not Asha'man.

But he would have meant there were not the Asha'man with him, no?

They could certainly be Red Veils or other Drealords serving Demandred, but I get the feeling the Red Veils aren't much the type to go destroy fortifications so Shadowspawn can rush in.

Aside from the two with Isam, and whatever Fain is up to, my hunch is that we won't see the Red Veils much except in the Blight (either as Lan advances, or toward the end battles).

Sort of like what we see she Master Norry avoids calling Falion, Chesmal, Eldrith and Temaile Aes Sedai ... Elayne has clearly made a point of not giving them the right to the title. That is how I read Deepe's comment. Granted the men he is speaking of could easily have been non BT trained, but Deepe has no way of knowing that, only that men who would oppose the Light had no right to the title

Yeah, I thought it must be something like this. I only vaguely remember the scene, but Deepe had no reason I can remember or puzzle out to have known the Dreadlords were not from the BT.

It's either your interpretation, or he simply meant all Asha'man were accounted for and this was the work of channellers on the Shadow's side.

I guess they could be some of Taim's Asha'man. There was a long delay where the Shadowspawn did nothing and they figured out later it was because they were gathering the male channelers. I always assumed Demandred/Moridin went to go fetch a few of these guys, thus the delay. It's equally possible they went to fetch Asha'man, but the way in which they channeled was suspicious. They held large amounts of saidin and were gathering a large single destructive weave. Seems like Forsaken channeling more than the modus operandi of the Asha'man.
