You're completely right that Nynaeve parallels Rand too. Implicit in my statement that it made sense for Egwene to be there due to her parallels to Rand was the understanding that Nynaeve completed those parallels and the unity of Egwene and Nynaeve balanced out the whole of Rand. Which is why it made sense to me that the three of them would be there at the very end (if this is the very end).
But I also think you undercut the parallels between Egwene and Rand when you say she only parallels the political side of Rand. That is the strongest part, but they also are very similar in personality. As a person, Rand is more like Egwene than Nynaeve, in his quieter stubbornness, his ability to focus. They also tent to think very similarly, in a way that is very different from Nynaeve's logical leaps.
And I think you're wrong when you say that Egwene doesn't have similarities to Rand's "champion" side. Take the "land being one with the Dragon". You see a similar tie between the Tower and Egwene. When she is beaten, cut up, and locked in a cell, the Tower is at its lowest ebb, with even Reds ready to turn on each other. When she finally becomes Amyrlin, she feels something becoming "right" in the world.
And they are both now tied strongly to the only two named sa'angreal remaining in the series. I don't think it is coincidental at all that Vora's wand became instrumental in gaining Egwene the Amyrlin Seat; You could even say that when she took it from deep in the stone (the stone basement of the Tower), she was seen and accepted as Amyrlin.
Then, there's the symbolic representation of the two. Rand is represented by the Dragon's Fang, Egwene by the white flame (even in Min's visions). Together, Rand and Egwene represent the united Aes Sedai symbol, the one under which Rand will conquer. That surely alludes to their impending political unity to face the LB together, but I'm not at all certain this unity won't also be required at the final face-off at Shayol Ghul.
As for Egwene and battles, you're right that her political role will prevent her from launching into the field... but only in the beginning. Remember that the characters are going to go through hell in aMoL. Very soon, I don't think anyone wil be able to sit on the sidelines. And I think Egwene's time learning damane weaves of destruction, her own prodigious ability for innovation, her choice of the Green Ajah, her parallel to Rashima Kerenmosa as the woman who succeeds the Red Amyrlin who betrays the greatest force against the Shadow, and her recent tie to Vora's sa'angreal will all come together. I really don't have any doubts that Egwene will be forced to be a Soldier Amyrlin. It goes against the deepest kernel of her personality to sit back and let other's do what she herself can do better. She'll fight, only she'll take more precautions, and be better prepared for the worst. That's what the Senachan attack and the battle with Mesaana were all about... teaching her to balance between her politcal role, and her desire to fight directly. I don't think she's giving up either role anytime soon.
