Sounds like he and I may feel the same way about them.

Sanderson only read A Game of Thrones before deciding to stop reading the series.
If we have that in common I am more impressed by him.
I've been to a few of his signings (it's nice living just a few hours away from him) and twice he was asked by someone near me something regarding Martin's books. He explained that he read the first and decided that he didn't like certain themes in the book. He said that it was really well written, but he won't read any more.
I don't know if that counts as "on the record" but it's enough for me.
The writing is good enough, I simply find most of the characters uncredible because they are either 1) evil, 2) insane or 3) evil AND insane. The bad guys are realistic enough, but that leaves me no one with whom to sympathize; it is just watching people I do not respect stumble around cluelessly until people I despise gruesomely murder them. That is wholly apart from how little Game of Thrones resembles any account I have ever read of the War of the Roses. "My book is based on the US Civil War, except with the Soviet Union, an alien invasion, incest and sadistic torture." In other words, not based on the Civil War at all.
Thanks for the heads up; if Sandersons view of it is anything like mine, that is just one more reason to read his stuff instead.

Is this true: Robert Jordan wrote the first three books of Game Of Thrones?

In a board filled with crap, this still wins the prize as one of the stupidest ideas out there.

I have personally heard him say it on two separate occasions.

Though some of it is second hand, my impression of ASoIaF is that it DEFINES "gratuitous violence."
