Faile feels the ripples in chapter 4 of KOD, Perrin feels ripples in chapter 26. In between there are other Faile/Perrin scenes spanning several days until the battle, with various pointers to synchronize the two series of events (remember the knots). Even without the exact chronology to double check, it would be obvious they didn't happen at the same time. When Faile felt the ripples, Perrin was meeting the Seanchan and setting up their deal to work together against the Shaido. He had met Galina a few days ago, the result of which was that Faile got the Binder stolen. It then took many days (detailed in the book) before she managed to bump into Galina and tell her she had it. Perrin rather felt the ripples 2 days before the battle toward the end of the book, and that's firmly established because he just told the wolves they would attack in two days.

Those who thought the ripples served to synchronize Perrin's and Faile's storylines are just misrembering how events unfold in KOD and confusing the ripples with the Cleansing which was indeed used that way by Jordan in COT to synchronize the stories of Faile and Perrin. That's not the case in KOD, Galina appearing in both storylines RJ made sure to keep them synchronized through the book and told everything chronologically.

If that was in TGS/TOM you would definitley have a point it could be a mistake - Brandon and TJ admitted they have had problems making sense of RJ's apparently hyper-complex chronology charts in Excel as they were still sketchy for AMOL events and that he never organized for anyone but himself to find their way in them(they ended up relying more on the far more straighforward fan-established chronology which as far as they could tell fitted perfectly with RJ's file up to KOD), but when Jordan was at the helm the WOT chronology was pretty tight and easy to follow in all books after TDR (not always with casual reading, but if you noted down the chronology pointers, it was very easy and coherent to follow). RJ always put tons of pointers for the chronology.

Isn't this the ripple? "As if reality itself rippled" or something? - 29/04/2012 07:40:54 PM 929 Views
