So Moiraine will be the second sister (we already knew about Nyaneve). Well, that puts an end to all theories about Moiraine or Nyaneve dying prior to the SG events.
Finally someone got Rand very close to my mental image of the character (too bad it's in such an unnatural/weird pose, but it would have been hard to compose the image with both Rand and the sword in a more vertical one, and I supposed it's why Whelan positionned it that way). Whelan is much better than DKS was at drawing humans, that for sure. I'm not at all a fan of the DKS covers (most of my WOT dustjackets have gone to the trashcan), but I think the effort Whelan made to keep a DKS touch to the last cover was a nice idea, respectful and all. It means a much lighter (both in colours/contrast and general mood) depiction of SG than would have been realistic in my mind, but it no doubt looks more like a WOT cover that way. That style of illustration for Fantasy won't ever be to my taste, but few ever are.
Other than the art, nice to see the "eclipse" theory confirmed for "twice dawns the day", and thus to see the end to all the crackpot theories from time travel gateways to time loops and what not. Occam's razor triumphed again.
I don't like the depiction of the SG sky, but post epiphany Rand has dispersed storms before by his mere presence, so maybe it's why the red/orange/black stormy sky is not there anymore.
If they didn't take artistic license with the timeline, the most interesting tidbit on the cover is that the day on which Rand sheds his blood at SG is supposed to dawn once for mourning and once for birth. It looks like the dawn for mourning is already passed, and after the eclipse will be the dawn for birth. If the mourning is related to Rand, well... his "death" obviously happens before he faces the DO, as quite a few different theories proposed.
Now the million dollar question: does anything/anyone awaits ahead beside the DO and if yes, who?
