I found the shout out to the Two Rivers a bit strange. The Queen and all nobles ignore this backwater region, and suddenly he remembers TR and thinks he might recruit there? Maybe Baerlon, but TR?
Loved the melted metal element of the story. That definitely had a BS feel to it. A new weirdness to add to the long list of things already going wrong.
"There had been a shadow on Bayrd, and the rest of the camp, lately. As if...as if he couldn’t stand in the light no matter how he tried. The darkness was always there, weighing him down. He woke each morning feeling as if someone he’d loved had died the day before."
Is this supposed to tell us that Jared was a Darkfriend?

That is a possibility but I read it as they felt that they weren't doing what they were "supposed" to be. It seems like the pattern or the Creator or Rand himself is "pulling" the people together to form an army for the last battle. This is evidenced by the whole rebel army deserting and heading north..who knows?
"The stones were in his blood, and his blood in the stones of this Andor."
I think it's a coincidence, or at least not deliberate, but it made me think about the blood-on-rocks prophecy.
Good catch! I didn't see that the first time I read it but it is definetely a possibility..
Any other thoughts?
(And please, if you are just going to say "It sucks", than please stay away from this thread, or preferably Board.)
I don't think it sucked, although I would have preferred to have seen someone who we've already met. It felt like everyone in that whole scene were just a bunch of randoms who won a twitter contest to have their name inserted, which is cool, I would have just preferred a scene from someone we knew.. Other than that the only other thing I caught was a feeling that the people of Randland are starting to feel a pull to join up and fight in the last battle, whether that is Rand, the pattern or the Creator doing the pulling who knows..
