So, does anybody else find it weird that neither Rand's patrilineal ancestors (nor his mother, as Andor's requisite training in the White Tower would have undoubtedly detected even the potential to learn) nor his descendants through Aviendha after the first über-channeler generation could channel? None of them have the inevitable ability, and in some cases (Coumin, Ladalin) it is specifically mentioned that they could not even have been trained.
Incidentally, how does the forward-seeing ability of the columns work? It's one thing when it looks to the past, since people only have one father or mother, but even in a deterministic universe, people can have multiple children. Why does Aviendha's vision follow Padra, and not Marinna?

Well one factor is the Seanchan begin collecting all the Channelers from the gene pool and tightly control them so finding the necessary genetic markers in two people would get more and more difficult as time progressed. Feasible to think that within a generation or two the ability would become very rare.
Seems to me that Aviendha's vision followed Parda because her line lasted the longest ... Perhaps Marinna and her decendents died during the war thus only giving Aviendha's vision one route to take. Alternatively it could have been completely random. But it seems like the Columns choose a path that follows major events and puts the individual into the most significant scenarios based on who was there. Nothing to say that Aviendha couldn't have seen parts of this future through Padra's family and other parts through Marinna's ... Only that we ended up in Padra's head.
Domani Drag Queen in the White Tower ... Aran'gar watch out!

Agreed that it is a rather strange twist and seems very sudden to happen within a generation

Well the Sharans seem to know as they breed channelers and kill the male offspring

True, but the odds of Channelers having children with the ability are vastly higher
