Re: In tSR, Lanfear offered to Rand to frighten the Wise Ones out of TAR permanently... fionwe1987 Send a noteboard - 26/09/2009 03:37:37 PM

Lanfear offered to "do things to them" in TAR which would ensure they never dared come back into the Dreamworld. I don't recall the exact quote, but I remember the gist of the conversation.

The implication was that she was infintely more knowledgeable and skilled in TAR than they were.

It could also be another severe case of underestimation of "these half-trained girls". I'm not sure we should believe an arrogant Forsaken over women who rarey boast of what they can do and aren't idiotic enough to claim abilities they do not have.

Another thing that gives me confidence that the WO are a match is that Moghedien thought to use her "superior" knowledge and skill to trap Egwene. Now, Egwene did not even know she was trapped, but was strong enough, and had strength of will enough to escape, impressing Moghedien.

I think it'll be similar with the WO.

It stands to reason. The Wise Ones knowledge of TAR is limited to word of mouth teaching stretching back for 3500 years.

What is wrong with that? We hear of no skills lost in the time, because it stretches back to the AoL in an unbroken line. They took months to teach Egwene and were still not done, and the teaching wasn't just about practice but involved answering a myriad of questions put to them by Egwene.

The implication is also strong that the worst horrors of TAR that were used in the AoL were known to the WO, and were things they could do, but refused to since they knew they were evil.

In contrast, Lanfear's abilities seemed to be the culmination of all the TAR knowledge from all the research of the Age of Legends. And if the hints can be believed, Moghedien at least matched, and possibly exceeded her abilities in this domain.

But I always got the impression that this was one branch of AoL knowledge that was passed down without any gaps, and that the Wise Ones are fully aware of and capable of all the AoL techniques that Lanfear and Moghedien may employ.
